The Edinburgh Academy Senior School Film - Giving our Pupils a Compass for Life
At the Edinburgh Academy we give our pupils a compass for life, the tool needed to navigate their future. We do this with guidance, leadership (moral and ethical) and by fostering diverse interests. Modern careers rarely rely on a single discipline so we endeavour to produce well-rounded individuals.
Starting with the Transition years – Geits (P7), 2nds (S1) and 3rds (S2) – we build on the foundations learned in Primary. Our P7s start in the Geits Base, a ‘transition house’ that is tailor-made for them where they ease into life at the Senior School and experience a more mature environment. Geits are exposed to positive examples of leadership early, being mentored by 7ths (S6), and take part in activities and pupil-led projects with students of all ages. Division competitions, Model United Nations, School Choir, Eco Club, Drama, Young Engineers, Podcast Group, Equality Group and Science Club are just a few examples.
By Middle years – 4ths (S3) and 5ths (S4) – the pupils have settled in and gravitate toward different groups and interests. They also focus on academics while expanding their view of the world through trips, sport and outdoor education such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
During their Senior years – 6ths (S5) and 7ths (S6) – pupils prepare for University and beyond by getting careers advice and assuming roles of responsibility such as being part of the student council or mentoring Geits. This passing of the torch is very important – Geits are mentored by 7ths and end their time at the Academy as mentors themselves. The result is a strong, close and supportive EA community.
We believe mental health to be just as important as physical health and EA pupils have the support of our incredible Pastoral team through every step of their EA journey. Yoga and Mindfulness sessions are open to children of all ages, and we receive regular visits from a Therapy Pet.
