Bursaries

The Edinburgh Academy is firmly of the belief that talented children should be able to benefit from an Academy education.

Means-tested bursaries are available only to pupils who are applying to join the School and whose household meets the financial criteria. Bursaries are not available to pupils who are already enrolled at The Edinburgh Academy.

Bursary awards can be made of up to 100% of school fees, subject to the availability of funds. These awards are targeted towards applicants who would benefit most from this life-changing opportunity and whose families would otherwise be unable to access an Academy education.

Funds are usually available to support pupils in receipt of 100% bursaries with some of the extra costs associated with school, for example uniform, books and other essential items.

Bursaries are normally prioritised for Senior School years, but special consideration may be given for support in the Junior School depending on the availability of funds.

Bursaries are awarded for one year at a time and are reviewed annually. The level of award is decided on a case-by-case basis, following an independent means-tested assessment undertaken by BAL Ltd. The assessment considers family income and assets, including income from relatives or partners, trust funds, savings, investments and shares.

The deadline for bursary applications is early January each year. Applications must be submitted as part of the admissions process and before a pupil joins the School.

Scholarships

Scholarship opportunities at The Edinburgh Academy are available to both internal and external candidates, offering support and challenge to the most able and committed. Scholarships are intended to recognise and encourage pupils’ talents, with awards typically providing access to enhanced coaching, tuition, mentoring or specialist support.

Current pupils, as well as new entrants progressing to, or joining, Geits (P7), 2nds (S1), 3rds (S2) or 4ths (S3), may be invited to sit Academic Medal exams. These awards are Academic Medals and a £100 book token. Further details can be found in the EA Scholarships Overview document.

Pupils may apply to become an Art or Music Scholar. Art awards offer personalised support, as well as a small annual grant to provide financial assistance in pursuit of the scholar’s specialist endeavours. Music Scholarships offer free tuition in one instrument or voice. Talented Athletes gain access to a wide range of benefits including access to high-level coaching, competitive opportunities, mentorship in goal-setting, nutrition and hydration, sports science support and analysis, and individual development plans.
