Welcome from the Rector
Welcome to The Edinburgh Academy and EA Community. This mini-website includes helpful information for the start of the 2024–25 session.
We invite you to watch the welcome messages from key members of our leadership team: the Rector, Senior Deputy Rector and Headteacher of Junior School and Nursery who offer introductions to the Senior School, Junior School and Nursery respectively. Also included are greetings from Year Group Heads from both campuses and we encourage you to watch the film from your child's year group.
Please remember to refer to this section before your child joins the School, as some of the information is subject to change.

Terminology
An explanation of some of the jargon you may hear used at the Academy:
- Divisions: Carmichael, Cockburn, Houses (Dundas in the Junior School) and Kinross: used as the basis of various competitions (referred to as House competitions in many schools).
- Ephors: Prefects/monitors; (a Greek word meaning overseers: Ephors were the magistrates in Sparta).
- Geits: Pupils in the First Year at the Senior School (an old Scottish word meaning youngsters); equivalent to P7.
- New Field: Sporting grounds where Hockey, Rugby and Cricket matches and practices are held.
