The Edinburgh Academy Choir and Choral Society Concert
On Sunday, 9 June, the Edinburgh Academy Choir & Choral Society put on a stellar performance in Edinburgh’s esteemed Usher Hall. Conducted by Angus Tully, Edinburgh Academy Director of Music, the exacting musical pieces were artfully rendered and well received by an enthusiastic audience.
The evening’s programme was:
Charles Hubert Hastings Parry / I was Glad (1902)
William Walton / Coronation Te Deum (1953)
Ralph Vaughan Williams / Five Mystical Songs (1911)
Charles Hubert Hastings Parry / Blest Pair of Sirens (1887)
John Rutter / Psalm 150 (2003)
‘What’s always amazing about the Usher Hall concert is that you’ve got children there that are ten and you’ve got adults there in their 90s, and actually it’s not often that people from all of those age ranges can get together and do one thing, do it really well and do it in a fantastic venue. Whatever hair I may once have had has changed colour, but to have a performance like that in an hour’s programme, in Edinburgh’s best concert venue is so worth it.’ – Mr Tully reflects on the evening
‘I really liked it and it was really cool to sing on stage with an orchestra. Some parts were a bit tricky but it was the right level and I really enjoyed it.’ – India, 2nd (S1)
‘It was amazing and really fun. It was so nice performing in such a big hall and to such a big audience. It was a little nerve-wracking because you could see all of the people that you were performing for and because I didn’t want to let Mr Tully down.’ – Caroline, 4ths (S3)
