New Pupils and Parents series

Philippa Reekie (Elena, Primary 1)

What were you looking forward to about sending your child to EA?

Having visited the school previously, we were already aware of EA’s excellent facilities and general ethos. We were looking forward to seeing our daughter thrive in a nurturing and inspirational learning environment, meeting new friends and being exposed to a wide variety of activities.

What was your reception like?

The Admissions team were absolutely delightful to deal with, they could not have been more helpful. Not having attended nursery at EA we were slightly apprehensive that Elena may find it more difficult to settle but everyone has been so welcoming – the school and its staff are very approachable and parents very friendly. It is clear there is a great sense of community and a high level of parent engagement, both of which are important to us as a family.

What has impressed you so far?

We have been impressed by the school culture generally – children are encouraged to try an array of different activities yet at the same time they are given freedom to explore their own passions, helping to foster confidence. It is very individualised rather than a “one-size-fits-all” approach to learning and development. Communications from Elena’s class teacher and the school generally are warm and engaging and the options for extra curricular activities and holiday camps are exceptional.

What is your favourite part about EA?

The staff presence on the campus each morning welcoming each individual child is a wonderful touch, from Mr. Calder at the front gate to Mrs Petrie outside Denham Green and then the individual teachers at the classrooms themselves. It’s lovely to arrive to each morning and reassuring to walk away knowing you’ve left your child in such a kind, supportive and happy setting.
