Ephor – Co-Curricular and Character Education

My role this year as an Ephor is to support and encourage engagement in the co-curricular programme and to develop the school’s work on Character Education. I will be working closely with Ms Isherwood, our Head of Adventure and Character Education to develop the ‘Floreat’ programme which aims to improve people’s understanding of their own values and virtues and how important they are in life.

I joined The Edinburgh Academy in Primary 1 and have thoroughly enjoyed my time at school making the most of all the incredible opportunities on offer, including a life changing trip to Ecuador when I was in 5ths.

My favourite subjects at school are Drama and Music because I’m incredibly creative and also enjoy the collaborative aspect of these subjects. You will most likely find me in the Music department where I’ll be singing in choirs and playing the bassoon, or in the outdoors, taking part in or supporting the DofE programme.

I can be found at the Lighting desk of any show in the Magnusson. When I leave school, I plan to taking a gap year to work and travel and hope that I might be able to work in some different theatres all over the world. I then plan to study Technical Theatre, hopefully at the Scottish Conversatoire, where I want to focus on Stage Lighting Design and Stage Management.

Finally, I think the EA School Values are such a special aspect of our school culture and I hope to highlight these even more in my Ephor role this year. If I were to give advice to new pupils joining school, I would say be yourself; EA is a really supportive and inclusive environment where everyone is accepted for who they are and encouraged to find their thing.
