Laura Smith
Head of Human Resources
Laura joined The Edinburgh Academy in September 2021 as Head of HR. She comes to EA after a 22-year career with Royal Mail. During her time with Royal Mail she worked in Communications, Operations and Project Management. Laura found that she loved working in the ‘People’ space and was offered a permanent role as a People Change manager in the HR function, and roles in People Development and HR Business Partnering at local and national levels followed.
A keen swimmer, she competed at national level and was part of several youth orchestras where she enjoyed opportunities to travel across Europe and Northern America. Through her participation in sport and music, she discovered a love of travel. She earned a Masters degree from Glasgow University and studied abroad at the University of Copenhagen as part of her undergraduate study. She has lived and worked in France, the USA and spent two years working as a teacher in the Middle East.
She lives in Edinburgh with her husband and two sons and enjoys walking the dog, reading and volunteering for the Scout Association in her spare time.
