The first News Sheet after a Half Term can sometimes be a difficult one, given I really only have three days to report on since coming back and Storm Dennis has made our grass pitches near-unplayable, preventing me from mentioning too much sport! Our groundstaff are working hard to try and save our Saturday fixtures and get the fields playable in time. The Half Term break saw our Skiing Trip to Austria go incredibly well and, despite some strong wind at times, the group had a superb week of skiing and were a credit to the School. My thanks to Mr. Prosser and his team for making the trip so successful – his policy of banning phones and iPads is such a wonderful idea in helping our students make connections with each other and actually talk, rather than simply staring at a screen and scrolling absent-mindedly.
 
At the end of the week before Half Term our 1st XI Boys’ Hockey team lost a very narrow semi-final of the Scottish Schools’ Cup 2–3 against Loretto, in a very even and competitive game. My congratulations to Mr. Duncan, his coaches and his players (and all those supporters who went to watch!) – although we came away without the win, all involved acquitted themselves superbly.
 
At this time of the year our eyes gradually begin to turn to look towards the next academic year and the Admissions cycle is nearing completion. We have been delighted with the interest shown in both the Junior and Senior School but this has meant that some wonderful candidates are unfortunately still on our Waiting Lists. I hope this process will be complete in the coming weeks. We have also been tracking the university offers that our 7ths have been receiving and have been delighted with the superb offers that many of our Seniors have received. Hopefully, this process too will soon be complete and firm plans can be made about future destinations. Good luck to all those who are still waiting on news. Exciting times indeed!
