5 November 2020

This week started with a surprise when the top of Arboretum Road was open and the lower section was completely closed. We have had contact with the gas contractor today. I am told that the works will finish completely this weekend and that the road will be back to normal on Monday.

This does, of course, mean that this will be back to being a two lane road. I remain keen to encourage sustainable transport as much as possible and I would therefore ask that those who have been cycling and scooting just be mindful that it won’t be quite so relaxed in crossing over the carriageway from next week.

I, like a number of parents, was shocked by the behaviour of a gentleman in a white car this morning (not connected to the Academy). His driving was reckless in the extreme. Fortunately his actions did not result in any accidents in our vicinity but he was filmed by one of the contractors and this has been reported to the police.

Next week we will be marking Remembrance Day in the Junior School with a virtual service the children will watch in class. The ‘bubble’ system means that we will be able to sell poppies (especially at a time when the charity is struggling) within the ‘bubbles’. If you would like your child to purchase a poppy please give them a donation to put in the box. We will also be using resources in class to explain the significance of the poppies.

And finally, one of my favourite places in the world is the Island of Arran and it is home to a most magnificent golf course at Shiskine (on the west coast overlooking the Kintyre Peninsular). I was delighted to read in the Arran Banner newspaper that our own Jack Dunn (P6) had won the Shiskine Junior Championship with a fantastic score of Nett 32. A splendid achievement!

Kind regards
